Making the shooter as accessible as possible is the aim of its development. DOOM: The Dark Ages will provide a lot more customisation than previous id Software projects. According to executive producer Marty Stratton, the team aimed to make the game as accessible as possible.

Players will be able to modify the enemies' damage and difficulty as well as the projectiles' speed, the amount of damage they take, and other aspects such as the game's tempo, level of aggression, and parry time. Additionally, Stratton assured that one does not need to have played DOOM: The Dark Ages to comprehend the stories of DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
