Cristiano Ronaldo is stepping into the ring. The football icon is joining Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as a guest fighter, making him one of the most surprising additions in fighting game history.

The Portuguese legend will be available with the launch of the game next Thursday. But there's a catch: he won’t be playable in all modes right away.

According to SNK, Ronaldo won’t appear in Arcade Mode, Episodes of South Town, or Color Edit when the game first launches. However, Arcade and Story mode access will come sooner. The Color Edit feature, though, may never be available for Ronaldo—likely due to licensing restrictions involving real-life likenesses.

It’s an odd situation, especially since no similar limitations have been announced for Salvatore Ganacci, another real-world guest fighter included in the game.

SNK seems to be going all-in on bold promotion of the game. They recently became a major sponsor of WWE Wrestlemania, with their logo featured on the ring and a musical segment by Ganacci kicking off Day 1. At least, it is the suiting event as lots of wrestling fans love great fighting games. Will it work? We'll know pretty soon.
