Bethesda, the game company that publishes the Doom shooter series, and the garden equipment manufacturer Husqvarna, conducted a tournament for the original game on robotic lawnmowers as part of Dreamhack Winter 2023. The competition took place in Sweden and was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the series.

This is not the first such unusual occurrence associated with Doom. The game had previously been run on refrigerators, inside chocolate bars, on Christmas tree ornaments, within the "notepad" application, and other "platforms". The use of Husqvarna robotic lawnmowers is just a continuation of this "flash mob".

The AM 430X NERA costs 3800 euros. The new model features a color display. Husqvarna conducted a full-fledged collaboration with Bethesda, timed to the 30th anniversary of the Doom series.

Developers integrated the lawnmower's control system into the shooter's interface. The game itself was displayed on the device's screen. Using the selection wheel on the lawnmower, it was possible to turn the camera and shoot (upon pressing), while buttons were used for forward and sideways movements. Unfortunately, it was not possible to change weapons on this device.

In addition to the standard game, the lawnmower also allowed for playing in a "1-on-1" multiplayer mode thanks to the installed Wi-Fi module.

The winner received the very same M 430X NERA with Doom pre-installed as a prize.
