When we say "fighting games", most of us usually think of one of the big three franchises: Street Fighter, Tekken or Mortal Kombat. You may think of platform fighters like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Brawlhalla. If you're a fan of ARC System Works, you may think of Guilty Gear Strive. But you're unlikely to think of arena fighting games.

However, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is already starting blazing hot. Even though the game is in so-called advanced release, meaning that only those who purchased premium editions can play it, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero set a record as the most popular fighting game on Steam, with 91,005 players in the first day of its release.

Sparking Zero surpassed Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 in player count, making it the most popular fighting game on Steam. Additionally, it became the most popular game in the Dragon Ball series on the Valve platform.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has received an initial score of 83/100 on Metacritic. For arena fighting games this is a huge result. The game will be fully released this Friday.
