A new gameplay video for The Outer Worlds 2 has been released, revealing more details about the game. The developers have significantly refined the combat system, adding new mechanics and making shooting more dynamic and tactical. Unlike the first game, enemy level scaling based on the player's level has been removed, making progression more predictable—but no less challenging. Especially since enemies have become smarter: they actively use cover, try to break line of sight, and bombard the player with grenades, forcing constant repositioning.
One of the key innovations is verticality—the hero can now climb ledges, jump across platforms, and even slide down slopes, much like in Avowed. This opens up new tactical possibilities in combat and world exploration.
Shooting has also received major improvements: each weapon now feels distinct, from firing behavior to reloading and inspecting animations. New types of ammunition have been added, affecting weapon behavior. Some guns can even use multiple ammo types, adding flexibility in combat.
One of the weapons even fires drones that distract enemies with obnoxious advertisements. Upon reloading, they can be remotely detonated, eliminating nearby foes. There’s even a local equivalent of the BFG—the Big Bang—a powerful cannon that wipes out entire crowds with a single shot. However, its rare ammo must be scavenged throughout the world.
Weapons are divided into standard and unique variants, but even basic models can be modified to suit your playstyle. However, not all mods are universal—some only work with specific weapon types, ensuring each weapon has its chance to shine:
- A heavy shotgun can be lightened, allowing free movement and jumping while firing
- A knife grants temporary camouflage after a silent takedown
The developers have also placed special emphasis on stealth, adding numerous gadgets, perks, and upgrades for covert gameplay. Enemies now react more sharply to sounds and suspicious movements, making stealth even more tense and engaging.
