The story of MultiVersus deserves a place in gaming industry textbooks, right next to the failure of Concord. However, the game still has its own swan song to play, as the developers have revealed the final two characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This comes amidst growing frustration from fans, some of whom have escalated their disappointment to the point of threatening the developers. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh addressed the issue in a lengthy message, urging players not to direct threats at the team.
Huynh apologized to fans who never got to see their favorite characters added to MultiVersus and expressed hope that they would enjoy the content from the game's final Season 5. He also clarified that character additions in games like this depend on many factors, and that his own influence over these decisions was far more limited than some fans assumed.
After the announcement of MultiVersus shutting down, some players voiced frustration over being unable to spend their in-game tokens on new characters—one of the promised bonuses for those who purchased the $100 edition of the game. It’s possible that this issue was one of the triggers behind the threats.
