The "Flaws" system represents a unique bonus mechanism that can dramatically transform gameplay. Unlike the first game where skill progression was completely unrestricted, the sequel ties character development directly to your playstyle. As you progress, you'll unlock ways to enhance your character, but will also encounter unique flaws. Each flaw combines both negative and positive effects, creating meaningful player choices. Importantly, "Flaws" are optional - you can refuse them, but once accepted, they remain permanently.

In the "Extreme" difficulty mode, players lose the ability to refuse Flaws - all acquired traits become permanent.

  • One example is the Sungazer flaw, triggered by frequently looking at the sun. It increases ranged weapon spread by 100%, alters vision with a bloom effect, but provides constant 50% health regeneration in sunlight
  • Another notable flaw is Foot-in-Mouth Syndrome, which activates when constantly skipping through dialogues. Once acquired, a timer appears during conversations, forcing random dialogue choices when expired. In compensation, players gain a permanent 15% XP bonus
  • Flaws dynamically adapt to your build - aggressive shooters will develop different flaws than stealth-focused assassins, each corresponding to their playstyle

The Outer Worlds 2 launches this year for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
