The announcement of Sid Meier's Civilization VII took place during the Summer Game Fest 2024 presentation. Developers from Firaxis Games released a short cinematic trailer showcasing humanity progressing through different eras, similar to how players guide their nation through various times in Civilization.

Civilization VII is set to be released in 2025 on PC and consoles. Gameplay footage has not yet been shown.

However, the surprise was slightly spoiled ahead of time. A few hours before the presentation, a banner with the title Civilization VII was visible on the 2K Games website.

It has been known for some time that Firaxis Games has been working on the next installment of the iconic strategy franchise, but a full announcement had not been made until the Summer Game Fest opening ceremony. A complete presentation will be conducted by Sid Meier's studio in August. Meanwhile, the game already has its Steam page. There is little additional information, and no system requirements are available yet.
