Previously, the company tried to popularize its consoles, but now it has realized that multiplatform projects bring in more money.

During the latest meeting with investors, Sony's Chief Operating Officer, Hiroki Totoki, announced the company's plans to adopt an aggressive policy to increase profits. To achieve this goal, the company is considering releasing its studio games on other platforms simultaneously with PlayStation.

Totoki also noted that the teams under his leadership might not fully understand how "business optimization will affect the overall growth of the company". Therefore, he wants to do everything possible to convey this to his subordinates.

In its financial report for the quarter ending December 31, 2023, Sony reported that the PlayStation 5 had been shipped in quantities of 55 million units. For the current fiscal year, Sony had planned to sell 25 million consoles, but this goal is unlikely to be met. The company now expects that players will only buy 21 million units.

Representatives from Sony Interactive Entertainment also shared plans with investors for the upcoming fiscal year, which will run from April 2024 to March 2025. The company stated that its internal studios have several major projects in the works. In addition, Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to continue creating "high-quality titles and game services". However, no releases for existing major franchises are planned for the next fiscal year.
