This scenario could materialize in several Northern European countries. While the console will cost $450 in most regions, Sweden is already seeing prices reach 6,800 kronor (about $675), with the Mario Kart bundle going for 7,500 kronor (approximately $745).
In Denmark, the price will be around $625, while Finland gets $645–710 (depending on configuration). This makes it more expensive than a standard PS5 with disc drive and nearly comparable to the 1TB Steam Deck OLED.
There are several reasons for this:
- The main one - high taxes on electronics introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump
- Various additional fees - environmental, customs, logistics
- Distribution specifics - Nintendo doesn't handle supplies directly. For example, in Sweden, local distributor Bergsala independently set these prices, and other retailers simply followed the trend
Essentially, Northern European gamers will pay extra purely for "territory" - despite technically getting the exact same console. We can only hope prices will adjust somewhat after the official release.
