Tom Henderson from the Insider Gaming has confirmed that Valve is indeed developing a PvP shooter called Deadlock. The journalist shared some details about the game.
Deadlock is currently in the closed alpha, and this is a pretty early and experimental build that is not nearly close to release. Testers can choose out of nineteen different characters, with their own personality and skill sets. The archetypes are quite typical for a MOBA as there are ranged attackers, healers, tanks and assassins.
Deadlock has a really strong Dota 2 influence when it comes to mechanics and gameplay. You farm enemies and creeps to earn souls which is equivalent to the gold in Dota 2. Creeps can spawn anywhere at random. A boss is located at the center of the map.
The game features spirit urns that can be put to help your team earn more souls. The urn holder is visible to all players on the mini-map, making them a lucrative target for enemies.
Henderson mentioned that he has seen Deadlock's gameplay but will not publish any videos. The shooter does not have a release date yet. The journalist wouldn't be surprised if it comes out only in 2025.
Earlier details about Deadlock were shared by the dataminer Gabe Follower, who later announced that he would stop leaking information about the game.
