Trench Tales, a new tactical shooter set in an alternate timeline between World Wars, has officially launched on Steam. Developed by Talking Drums, the game combines gritty trench warfare with supernatural twists. Players take on the role of a lone soldier summoned to the dark world of Verdun by mysterious powers.
Combat emphasizes cover mechanics and strategic exploitation of enemy weaknesses. Unique abilities like time-slowing, energy blasts, and wall vision add a layer of supernatural intensity. Despite its promising ideas, early Steam reviews are mixed, largely due to a lack of polish and limited content at launch.
Weapon customization plays a significant role. Players can tweak barrels, stocks, and sights to suit their combat style. The semi-destructible environments also invite creative tactics—walls, doors, and cover objects can be demolished for an edge.
The game’s gothic visuals blend early 20th-century architecture with horror elements, building a unique atmospheric identity. Alexander Ponomarev, known for his work on Prey (2017), Black Ops 3, and Rise of the Tomb Raider, leads the studio.
Talking Drums has committed to ongoing updates, including expanded campaign content, new weapons, enemies, and maps.
