Sony's policy on PC outrages many gamers. The company require tethering to PSN even in single-player games, in addition, the service is not represented in all regions, so the sale of modern releases restrictions.

Recently Sony announced some changes: completely from the idea of tethering to the PSN on PC are not abandoned, but there will be a number of relaxations in the policy.

In the following games, tethering to PSN will not be mandatory:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered 

There are gifts for those who still decide to make PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - Early access to the “2099” line of costumes for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarok - will give access to the Armor of the Black Bear set first “Lost Things” chest at the beginning of the game, as well as a set of resources.
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - Bonus points to unlock features, etc.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered - Nora Valiant costume.

In response to inquiries from investors in November, COO Hiroki Totoki admitted that PSN connection faces opposition but asserted that it is essential to uphold security and order. He talked about the restriction in relation to service-based games, but he didn't explain how single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök are safer when a PSN account is required.
