Just days after OpenAI unveiled the new GPT-4o model, which boasts improved features including an expanded memory buffer, users have found an intriguing use for it. A special prompt is circulating online that allows users to turn the AI into a text-based RPG gaming console of sorts.

How does it work

The secret lies in the vast amount of information about popular games that was incorporated into GPT-4o's training data. This enables the AI to recreate game worlds, storylines, and mechanics purely through text.

Users have already tried the prompt with well-known titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Pokemon Red, and even Detroit: Become Human — the latter being particularly ironic for an AI that can "become human" itself.

We tested the prompt on GPT-4o and "played" The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The method proved functional, starting with an introduction, game selection, save file choice, and user name input before diving into the adventure.

While text-based gameplay can hardly match the visual spectacle of AAA titles, the creativity behind this prompt is undoubtedly impressive.
