Journalist Cheyenne Roundtree from Rolling Stone shared the news about the cancellation of the Netflix series based on Horizon Zero Dawn.
At the end of June, she released an investigation into showrunner Steve Blackman (known for "The Umbrella Academy"). Twelve colleagues accused him of toxic and manipulative behavior on set, but Blackman denied the allegations.
Roundtree mentioned that Netflix also declined to produce Blackman's original series titled "Orbital." Other media outlets have not confirmed Roundtree's information, and Netflix has not commented on the situation. The production of the Horizon Zero Dawn series adaptation was announced in 2022, but Netflix had not shared any details. The show was likely intended to be a prequel to the games.
If Netflix has indeed canceled the series, it is possible that Sony will look for a new partner. However, the real reason might be much more trivial. According to the insider Jeff Grubb, the scripts for the series were bad.
If that is the case, the project cancelation might be for good.
