While fans of The Witcher game series prepare for a long wait for the next title (Project Polaris has only just entered full production, meaning a release is still a couple of years away), Andrzej Sapkowski has decided to delight fans with a new book about Geralt.
Titled The Crossroad of Ravens, the book has already been released in Poland (translations are expected to be released in 2025), and initial reviews are starting to circulate online. Given its relatively modest length (under 300 pages), the quick turnaround is understandable. What are reviewers saying?
Firstly, they note that Sapkowski maintains his signature literary quality. The elements that have endeared his works to fans worldwide — his sharp prose, wit, and rich storytelling — are all present in this new addition.
However, The Crossroad of Ravens isn’t quite about the Geralt of Rivia we know. This book is a prequel, focusing on a young and inexperienced Geralt, filled with all the mistakes and adventures that come with youth. The story offers a different perspective on the beloved character.
Unfortunately, many readers have described the book as more of an appetizer than a main course. Considering how rarely Sapkowski publishes Witcher books, fans expecting more substance may be left wanting. And it seems the wait for more significant Witcher content may rival the time it will take for CD Projekt Red to release The Witcher 4.
On a brighter note, the Polish author appears to have reconciled with the developers of the games. An interesting nod to the Witcher universe in The Crossroad of Ravens is a character who wears a medallion of the School of the Viper, a concept originating in the games. While a full-fledged collaboration between Sapkowski and CDPR remains a distant dream, it’s a detail that sparks hope for the future.
