The developer of Payday 3 continues to cut staff amid serious financial difficulties. As reported by 80 Level, Starbreeze has notified employees of plans to close its French division by the summer of 2025.

As of the end of February, 23 people were working in the French office. More than half of them may be laid off by the end of March, with the rest to follow by June. Some employees may be offered the opportunity to relocate to the headquarters in Sweden, but no final decision has been made on this matter.

Management attributes the layoffs to financial troubles: in 2024, Starbreeze recorded a net loss of $18.6 million, while revenue fell by 3.4 times, amounting to $17.35 million.

The French team was responsible for supporting and developing key projects, including releasing patches and DLC for Payday. In addition to the office in France, Starbreeze has remote teams in Spain and the UK.

As of December 31, 2024, the company had 189 employees, but in early 2025, it became known that Starbreeze had laid off between 25 and 30 people over the course of several months.
