Why are events like Gamescom hosted? One reason is, of course, to present the games to a wide audience, and let them have a taste of upcoming projects. But  there is also a reason for developers to meet each other and discuss different trends. One of the concepts that different companies are thinking about is portable gaming. Steam Deck seems to have moved the needle and more people pay attention to that segment.

After his trip to Gamescom 2024, Tom Henderson shared that there was a lot of talk about portable devices at the event. The journalist believes that there will be significantly more options available in the market soon, so if someone is currently considering which portable device to purchase, it might be worth waiting.

Henderson hinted that this doesn't only refer to completely new devices but also improved versions of existing ones. He also noted that Sony is closely monitoring the portable device market following the success of the PlayStation Portal. During the first half of 2024, the Portal became the top-selling gaming accessory by revenue in the U.S. and U.K., two of Sony's largest markets.
