The official website for The Exit 8 movie has released its first trailer, unveiling an atmospheric glimpse into the upcoming psychological horror film. Set to hit theaters on August 29, 2025, the movie stars renowned singer and actor Kazunari Ninomiya in the lead role. Helmed by Genki Kawamura—the acclaimed producer behind hits like Your Name , Weathering With You , and Suzume —the film promises to deliver a chilling cinematic experience.

Based on the eponymous indie horror game released in November 2023 by Kotake Create, The Exit 8 captivated audiences with its eerie atmosphere and innovative gameplay mechanics. Players are trapped in a claustrophobic underground passage, where escape hinges on identifying hidden anomalies. Despite its lack of traditional narrative, the game amassed over 100 million views across YouTube playthroughs and inspired countless imitators.

Kotake Create, the game’s developer, expressed surprise at the overwhelming response to their project and the rapid announcement of its film adaptation. “I couldn’t have imagined how much interest the game would generate, let alone that it would be adapted into a movie so soon,” they shared.

“When I heard about the adaptation just a year after the game’s release, I was shocked but incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
