If you're planning to be among the first buyers of NVIDIA's new graphics cards, you might want to hold off. A shortage of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 cards is expected in the first months after their release. According to Benchlife, a misunderstanding between NVIDIA and its manufacturing partners will negatively impact the initial supply of these GPUs.
Sources from UDN also reported a severe shortage of the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 in some regions, particularly in China. According to their information, the market is experiencing a sharp price increase, with initial prices potentially reaching up to double the recommended retail price. Manufacturers like ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are expected to profit significantly from this price surge.
In Europe, prices for the graphics cards are expected to be especially high due to taxes applied to premium-class products, Wccftech noted. The publication also predicted that availability issues are unlikely to be resolved in the first few days after the cards' launch.
The GPU shortage could persist until the second quarter of 2025. This issue may also affect the RTX 5070 Ti and 5070, which are slated for release in February.
