Several big outlets have published previews of the PS5 Pro after testing the console during a Sony press event. The main takeaway from reviewers is that games on the PS5 Pro indeed run and look noticeably better than on the standard PS5. On the more powerful console, the target frame rate is 60 fps or higher, and the level of graphical detail is akin to the Quality mode, which on the regular PS5 is often capped at 30 fps.

Many of the graphical improvements between games on the PS5 and PS5 Pro are especially noticeable up close. While the graphical upgrades on the PS5 Pro are striking up close, stepping back a couple of meters makes the difference in visual quality between the PS5 and PS5 Pro less apparent.

However, the increased frame rate is a significant advantage of the PS5 Pro over the PS5, making gameplay smoother even in the most demanding games. This improvement is noticeable regardless of the distance from the screen.

Ray tracing notably transforms some games, like F1 24 or Hogwarts Legacy, according to Digital Foundry experts. They mentioned that many PS5 Pro owners will likely experience a wow effect when observing the enhanced lighting and reflections.

All games on the PS5 Pro run with improved performance compared to the PS5. However, it's important to understand that both consoles have the same CPU. As a result, games that place a heavy load on the processor might not see a significant frame rate boost on the PS5 Pro. For example, Dragon's Dogma 2 struggles to maintain a stable 60 fps even on the more powerful console.
