The announcement of the PS5 Pro caused quite a stir. While many players expressed confusion over the high price of the new console, former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra shared his thoughts on the device. According to him, the more powerful model is aimed at current PS5 owners who may want to upgrade, rather than expanding the audience. Ybarra notes that the company doesn't want to lose money on each console, so it focused on maximizing the device's value for gamers.

This aligns with PlayStation's plan to sell used consoles. Enthusiasts will be able to pay extra for an upgrade to the Pro version, while those wanting to buy a cheaper PS5 will have that option, potentially bringing in new players for Sony.

Meanwhile, analysts at Ampere Analysis predict that Sony could sell 1.3 million consoles during the launch window, compared to 1.7 million units for the PS4 Pro in a similar time frame. This suggests that sales will still be quite strong.

The most interesting consequence occurred in American online stores. After Sony announced that the PS5 Pro would not include its own disk drive, people began buying external drives for the original console. Given that Sony has confirmed PS5 Pro's compatibility with accessories from the regular PS5, it can be assumed that these drives were bought by those planning to upgrade.
