One of the designers of the Steam Deck, Lawrence Yang, and programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais recently discussed Valve's handheld PC with journalists.

Valve is currently experimenting with limited-edition Steam Deck models, which has been going well so far. The company has not ruled out the possibility of offering additional exclusive colors, but that would depend on the demand for the recently introduced white model.

Valve thinks that Steam Deck is a successful project, with one indicator being the emergence of similar devices by other manufacturers, effectively creating a new category of handheld gaming PCs on the market.

Valve recognizes that some people have made the Steam Deck their primary gaming platform, although there isn’t exact data on this. The company has also noticed that certain games have a significant portion of their player base on the portable device.

Valve specialists are aware of issues related to anti-cheat systems that require kernel-level access, which has led to games like Apex Legends and GTA Online becoming unsupported on the Steam Deck. Valve is monitoring this trend but is not in a hurry to take specific actions, acknowledging that existing solutions could impact performance or pose potential security risks for user data.

Previously, Valve announced a limited-edition white Steam Deck with an OLED display and 1 TB of storage, priced at $679.
