Players of Counter-Strike 2 reported an erroneous wave of account bans, affecting legitimate gamers. Complaints about mass VAC bans surfaced on the Reddit platform. Despite the seriousness of the issue, many fan posts were removed by site moderators.

Gamers noted that their accounts were blocked on December 5, despite never having used cheats. Some players in the discussion speculated that this was the work of a new neural network designed to detect cheaters in the shooter.

According to one trader's estimates, 223 players were banned. The total value of their skins exceeded $1.27 million. Gamers jokingly started to speedrun for the "fastest VAC ban in CS2".

On the same day, Valve reported an error in the VAC ban system. On social network "X", studio representatives stated they had begun lifting the relevant bans, but there was no clarity yet about compensation for the damage.

The developers wrote the following:

After yesterday's update, the protection system erroneously started blocking player accounts. We have fixed the issue and have begun lifting bans on innocent users.
