The Chinese Room studio has shared a new development diary for Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2, this time filled with gameplay footage. The devs demonstrated how the vampire character will hunt in the game.
In the Vampire The Masquerade universe, vampires follow the Masquerade, which means they strive to keep their vampiric nature hidden from the eyes of ordinary humans. This is reflected in Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 with a Masquerade meter, which indicates actions that are considered unacceptable.
If the Masquerade is breached, players will notice three different indicators on the eye icon at the top of the screen — green, yellow, and red:
- Green: A minor violation, simply hiding is enough.
- Yellow: The player has committed several infractions, fed, or used aggressive powers. In this case, they will have to handle witnesses or avoid attracting too much attention from the police.
- Red: The Masquerade has been broken, and the police are chasing the player. At this point, it is best to flee and hide, as the Camarilla will personally handle the violator once the meter is filled, as seen in the clip below:
To reduce their "infamy," players have several options: they can either make witnesses forget what they saw or simply eliminate them. If the police are involved, the easiest solution is to hide and wait it out.
The developers have promised that the risk of exposing the vampire existence will increase progressively throughout the game. To uphold the Masquerade, players will need to act quickly and decisively.
