The first trailer for The Witcher 4 is finally here, two years after the game's official announcement. The 6 minute video confirms - Ciri will be the new protagonist, replacing Geralt, who was in charge of the first three games.
Fans are naturally thrilled to have something on the sequel after nearly ten years since the last game, and even more so now that they will be playing as Ciri. One aspect of the trailer, though, has now been verified: Jo Wyatt does not play Ciri.
CDPR confirms that Ciri is played by Irish actor Ciara Berkeley in the trailer:
Officials also clarified Berkeley will also play Ciri in the full game, ruling out Wyatt's return as the character, even though the language here only relates to the trailer.
We now know that Ciri is, at the very least, the main character. After the teaser image for The Witcher 4 revealed a medallion that differed from Geralt's, indicating that he won't be the lead, this was mainly assumed. The fact that Polish developers described the new game as a good place for new players to start and as part of a new trilogy further supported this.
Although CDPR has alluded to a release date, the trailer did not provide one. Michał Nowakowsk, the co-CEO, stated a few weeks ago that the team does not want to reveal a game that is over two years away from release. The Witcher 4 should, at the very least, be released in 2026, based on the announcement.
