Deadlock set a new record on Steam over the past weekend — on Sunday, the online player count for the MOBA action game reached nearly 90,000 players.

The surge in online activity came after Valve finally officially confirmed the existence of Deadlock and allowed all test participants to talk about the game. Many well-known streamers, including Shroud and LIRIK, hosted several live streams of the game.

However, the game is still only accessible through existing test participants. To gain access to Deadlock, you must be friends with someone who has access, and they must invite you.

Valve has stated that Deadlock is still in the early stages of development, and many aspects of the game may change. Nonetheless, a lot of people praise the game even in its current state, as it brings a breath of fresh air to the MOBA genre. Developers are also actively working on the game: there were reports of bugs fixed pretty fast. However, a full release of Deadlock is likely a long way off,  although it doesn't seem to be a problem for those tens of thousands of players who are already enjoying the new Valve title.
