Leading gaming publications have released reviews for Dragon Age: The Veilguard three days ahead of the game’s release. The RPG has achieved an average Metacritic score of 84 out of 100 based.

Critics are quite divided on The Veilguard: some have hailed it as a masterpiece, saying that "old BioWare is back," while others have described it as a solid RPG with its own flaws but lacking greatness. At the time of writing, the game had no negative reviews on Metacritic.

Most reviewers praised the gameplay, calling The Veilguard a dynamic and engaging action RPG that keeps players active, especially at higher difficulty levels. However, opinions were mixed here as well. For example, VGC stated that The Veilguard's gameplay "feels stuck in the past," as it doesn’t offer anything particularly fresh or innovative.

One area where critics were nearly unanimous was the game’s world-building. The locations are a joy to explore, filled with secrets and interesting characters. While most of the side quests are excellent and expand the story, there are some less engaging ones that come across as generic or repetitive.

The main character’s companions received much praise. Critics noted that they are well-written, though there are occasional awkward lines. Overall, the companions feel vibrant, engaging, and memorable, though they can be overly helpful by offering hints too frequently.

Performance issues were highlighted by several reviewers. The Veilguard reportedly suffers from occasional stuttering, especially for PC players. These issues can appear even on high-end systems with top-tier graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 4090.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to release on October 31, 2024, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
