TikTok temporarily ceased operations in the US on January 19. Marvel Snap, a well-known card game developed by Second Dinner Studios and released by Nuverse, a division of ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, was unexpectedly impacted by this blockage.

After being unavailable for 24 hours, the game is now back online, but it is still being worked on to restore full access; in-game purchases are still not possible. To avoid such failures in the future, the developers are thinking about switching publishers and intend to move some of the services to internal resources, according to an official statement on Platform X.

Political risks are the reason for this decision. TikTok was only granted a short 90-day extension to sell a local owner 50% of the business. TikTok and associated projects, such as Marvel Snap, may face reblocking if the agreement falls through.

Second Dinner Studios has stated that it will return later with additional information.

Although many players are complaining about authorization issues, PC owners could still view it on Steam. Second Dinner's developers were shocked by the incident and said they are working to get the game back online. According to a Platform X official statement:

“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.

One particularly annoying aspect was that players were not given any warning. Many people didn't know about the potential lockout and kept spending money on in-game purchases.
