Second Dinner, a California-based studio, created the game, but ByteDance subsidiary Nuverse publishes it. As a result, Marvel Snap was banned along with other apps like CapCut and Lemon8. On January 18, 2025, the game's availability on the iOS and Android platforms was discontinued.
Although many players are complaining about authorization issues, PC owners can still view it on Steam. Second Dinner's developers were shocked by the incident and said they are working to get the game back online. According to a Platform X official statement:
“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.
One particularly annoying aspect was that players were not given any warning. Many people didn't know about the potential lockout and kept spending money on in-game purchases.
Other ByteDance apps, though not all of them, were impacted by the lockout in addition to Marvel Snap. Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground, for instance, are still playable.
We wrote about the recent inclusion of an ongoing card Moonstone. Following the trend of potential meta-shakers, Moonstone is a card from Marvel Snap's Ongoing archetype that is desperately needed at the moment. Since she is an ongoing card (4/6), she can have the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards at her lane.
The number of low-cost Ongoing cards that are currently available in Marvel Snap makes that copyable pool already substantial. The distinction is that, while most inexpensive ongoing cards, like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, only use their effects to generate power, Moonstone can quickly get high because she can obtain those effects for free.
