While Marvel Rivals is doing well, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 seems to be going through tough times. Popular YouTubers are sounding the alarm, pointing out a sharp drop in player activity. Some have even stopped creating content for Activision's game, and legends of the competitive scene are voicing their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
OpTic Scump, a figure who built his name and fortune playing Call of Duty, has stated that the series has never been in such dire straits. According to Scump, the developers released the ranked mode too early. With the anti-cheat system not functioning properly, lobbies have been flooded with cheaters, which he sees as the primary issue.
Another streamer, FaZe Swagg, rage-quit Call of Duty during a live stream due to connectivity issues and switched to playing Marvel Rivals. His stream even featured a live counter tracking the number of hackers encountered in the game.
All of this is happening alongside the heavy nerfing of the zombies mode, which slows down the process of farming cool camouflage skins, and the overabundance of cosmetic items in the game. As the saying goes, they’ve added plenty of ways to take players' money but not much in terms of meaningful game improvements. Given the massive budgets that the Call of Duty franchise commanded just a few years ago, this situation is understandable but concerning. Player patience isn’t infinite, and it feels like we’re inching closer to a breaking point.
