While most fighting game franchises made their big announcements during EVO 2024, the fans of Mortal Kombat 1 had to wait until Comic-Con in San Diego to hear the news about the new story expansion, Khaos Reigns.

It is priced at $50 and includes not only story chapters but also a second set of fighters, which features Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface from the movie "Scream," Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

For the older generations, these guest characters will be appealing simply because they are legendary characters from iconic 1980s and 1990s films. However, the younger audience has expressed confusion, claiming that they do not fit well into the updated Mortal Kombat universe and do not address demand among the community.

Some noted that Cyrax and Sektor are no longer fully cybernetic ninjas, which removes one of the most brutal and dark pages of Lin Kuei history (and, to be honest, it is for the better).

Many fans did not appreciate the price, considering it too high, especially in comparison to Shadow of the Erdtree, which was priced at $40 and was still considered expensive by some.

The players have to wait for slightly less than two months as the DLC will go live on September 24. Half of the new fighters will be available as well.
