At the end of 2024, Rocksteady Studios, the developer of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced yet another round of layoffs. Six workers who wanted to stay anonymous reported them.

Developers from the programming team, artists and testers were laid off. This is a continuation of the layoffs that began in September, when the size of testers was cut in half, from 33 to 15 people. 

For 2024, Rocksteady has faced serious challenges trying to keep Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League going despite low popularity. According to Warner Bros. the losses from the project amounted to about $200 million.

In December, the developers announced that no new updates for the game will be released in 2025, although the servers will remain online.

The cuts affected not only Rocksteady. In December, employees of another studio Warner Bros. - Games Montreal, known for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights. 99 people were fired.

The story became even more tragic when the game was made available to early access users. Players ran into horrible bugs. Several times, the Suicide Squad servers went down entirely, making it impossible for players to join the game. A storyline spoiler was exposed by one of the early access bugs. The gameplay was also the subject of complaints. 

Well-known magazines made it clear that they didn't enjoy the game. All of this resulted in a significant return of early access funding. According to a statement released by the analytics company McLuck, the failed debut of Suicide Squad caused a staggering 791% increase in refund requests.

It is now unknown what Rocksteady will work on next.
