Elden Ring game director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared that his team is not currently working on a sequel to the original game. However, Miyazaki did not rule out the possibility of future developments for the Elden Ring franchise. He again mentioned that FromSoftware is busy with multiple projects simultaneously.

The information about the lack of plans for Elden Ring 2 is unlikely to be a surprise. Miyazaki had previously mentioned that the original game was the most ambitious project FromSoftware had ever undertaken, so it's doubtful the company would immediately dive into a sequel for such a complex project, especially after the major expansion Shadow of the Erdtree was released.

Recently, it was also revealed that Kadokawa Corporation, which owns FromSoftware, has been considering a potential merger with Sony. Negotiations are still ongoing, and no final decision has been reached yet.

If the deal goes through, the new owner could influence the direction of the studio's projects. In such circumstances, planning a massive project (like Elden Ring 2) could be considered too risky.
