The January Windows 11 update number KB5050009 was disastrous for many users. Reported inoperability of Bluetooth headphones and devices connected via external USB. Users are facing webcam disappearance with Camera not detected error. Switching applications by Alt+Tab can cause the system to freeze. To fix these errors, sometimes uninstalling updates is not enough and requires reinstalling the OS.
After installing the update, many users began to report problems with built-in webcams, which were functioning normally before installing the fresh software. In particular, owners of HP Spectre laptops complain that the camera on their devices is no longer detected, and uninstalling the update does not help solve the problem, requiring a reinstallation of the OS.
Owners of several models of Dell 4K monitors with built-in webcams (e.g. P3424WEB and P2424HEB) report a similar situation that after updating the OS they get the error “Device can't start”.
After installing updates KB5050009 for Windows 11 24H2 and KB5050021 for Windows 11 23H2, as well as KB5049981 for Windows 10, there are numerous reports of external USB DACs not working, resulting in sound loss in connected equipment, with the driver showing the error Not enough system resources to complete API.
The affected devices include JDS Labs ODAC, Fiio E17K USB DAC, FX-Audio DAC-X6, Hifime Sabre DAC, HyperX USB headsets and Denon CEOL Carino. Checking the DACs on other devices confirms that they work. Sound is restored only after uninstalling the update.
Update KB5050009 for Windows 11 24H2 often leads to the fact that switching applications during a game using the Alt+Tab shortcut may cause the game to freeze or quit. Ctrl+Alt+Del or calling Task Manager will not work, and Explorer or Desktop may also hang. The problem affects many games, including Fortnite and Assassin's Creed.
The KB5050009 update itself often causes crashes right when it is installed. Some users experience an endless reboot, while others get error code 0x80070005. After installing the update, some users notice Smart App Control not working properly.
There is no solution yet to fix the problem with the January Windows 11 24H2 update. The only thing left is to uninstall it, pause updates in Windows and wait for Microsoft to respond.
