The Game Awards continues to gain momentum. Very soon, we will learn the names of the winners, but in most categories, the player's vote doesn't have much influence. The exception is the Players' Voice category, which entirely depends on regular players.
When it comes to popularity contests, the games that win aren't always those that can be considered art. This is also the case here. If we look at the ten titles that made it to the second round, we can spot some trends—such as the significant portion of gacha games. It will be interesting to see which five games make it to the final list, which will be announced in a few days. Will HoYoverse manage to make it into the top five? Will the debates around Shadow of the Erdtree eligibility for GOTY benefit or harm Elden Ring? The selection may seem large, but it's hard to say if this year has been particularly fruitful.
The awards ceremony will take place on December 12, and that's when we'll find out the winners.
