Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima, whose games have long become iconic, does not hide his love for movies and TV series. Every year he shares his favorites, and 2024 was no exception. Kojima has compiled a list of projects that have inspired him, from philosophical dramas to large-scale epics. Here's what he thinks is worth watching.

The best movies of 2024 according to Kojima:

  • Past Lives,

  • The Teachers' Lounge,

  • Dune: Part Two,

  • All of Us Strangers,

  • Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,

  • La Chimera,

  • Hit Man,

  • Gondola,

  • The Seed of the Sacred Fig,

  • The Substance,

  • The Holdovers,

  • Juror #2.

For the best Japanese movies of the year, he chose A Girl Named Ann, All the Long Nights, and My Sunshine.

For the best drama shows of 2024, Kojima selected Shōgun and True Detective: Night Country.

For anime, he chose Look Back, Flow, and Robot Dreams.

Kojima's choices are in line with critics' opinions. His list has nominees for Best Picture at last year's Academy Awards, winners of Golden Globe awards in various categories.

However, some notable projects such as The Brutalist and Emilia Perez are missing from his list, which may be due to their yet-to-be-released in Japan.
