We continue our chronicle of events under the headline "How’s Ubisoft Doing Today?" and today, something officially happened that could be called shocking — unless you’ve been following insider reports.

What they warned about has come to pass: XDefiant has failed to become the "Call of Duty killer". The project didn’t capture enough player interest, and now the company is transitioning the game into its sunset phase. (What a choice of words! "Sunsetting", not "closing".)

What this means is that new players will no longer be able to try the game, and no new purchases can be made. Refunds will be issued for the Ultimate Founders Pack, and existing players will be able to enjoy the shooter for another six months. During this time, Ubisoft will release the Season 3 content they had been working on. But after that, the project will be shut down, as insiders had predicted.

This is yet another major blow to Ubisoft, which has been facing a significant crisis lately. (It’s hard to tell whose situation is worse, Ubisoft’s or Intel’s, but this is the kind of competition no one wants to win.) Perhaps this will be the final straw, leading to major changes at Ubisoft.
