Ubisoft has published its report for the first half of the 2024 fiscal year, which ended on September 30. Here are the key points:
- Half-year sales reached €671.9 million, down 19.6% year-over-year.
- Net bookings totaled €642.3 million, a 21.9% decline compared to the same period last year.
- Digital revenue was €526.6 million, 27% lower than the previous year. Additional content accounted for €312.7 million, a 39.2% decrease year-over-year.
- Back-catalog games generated €494.2 million, comprising 77% of total revenue, though this saw a 29% year-over-year decline.
Audience metrics improved, with players spending 9% more time in Ubisoft games than in the first half of last year, and daily logins increased by 6%. The main contributor to this increase was Rainbow Six Siege. Monthly Active Users (MAU) reached 37 million, a 3% increase from the previous year.
Star Wars Outlaws did not meet management’s expectations despite favorable reviews from the press and players. Ubisoft is working to improve the game’s trajectory and ensure its long-term success. Developers have already released several updates with “notable improvements,” and a major patch is set to launch on November 21, along with the game’s Steam release and DLC, which Ubisoft hopes will attract a larger audience.
The free-to-play shooter XDefiant also fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, Ubisoft will continue its focus on live-service games.
CEO Yves Guillemot acknowledged that the company is going through a challenging period. Ubisoft is also "successfully implementing" its cost-reduction program, which has led to a reduction of 2,000 employees worldwide.
