Obsidian Entertainment recently shared some cool details about the RPG side of The Outer Worlds 2. The game is shaking things up compared to the original by letting you level up each talent on its own instead of grouping skills together. This means every choice matters, and you can build your character to be super specialized—whether that’s focusing on guns or using high-tech medical gadgets.

There are more than 90 perks you can pick from, and each one needs specific skills to unlock. For example, one perk lets you shoot while running or sliding, while another increases your damage if you have high eloquence and even opens up unique dialogue options. There are some wild ones too, like “Psychopath” and “Serial Killer,” that boost your power when you go on a rampage against NPCs.

Before the adventure starts, you’ll choose your character’s traits. Want an extra positive trait? You’ll have to balance it with a downside, like being a bit dumb, which will lock out five skill upgrades. The game really pushes you to experiment—even if that means wiping out all the NPCs—since the world responds to your decisions. And once you set your skills at the start, there’s no changing them later, so every decision really counts.

The Outer Worlds 2 is set to release in 2025, with a big presentation coming on June 8.
