The Spanish studio MercurySteam, known for its work on projects like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has unveiled its new project an action-RPG titled Blades of Fire. Developed in collaboration with publisher 505 Games, the game promises to immerse players in a dark fantasy world filled with mysterious races and fearsome creatures:
The first trailer showcases fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, a unique visual style, and a dark, atmospheric setting. In terms of gameplay and artistic design, Blades of Fire shares similarities with Lords of Shadow, while the environment and enemy designs show clear influences from Darksiders. Additionally, the trailer features a mechanical bird, which the protagonist will likely use to traverse the game world.
Blades of Fire is being developed on MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, which may help it avoid the optimization issues often encountered by many modern projects using Unreal Engine 5.
The game is scheduled for release on May 22, 2025, and will be available on current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series) and PC (via EGS).
