Shortly after the news of the game's delay to 2026, various insider reports have emerged, suggesting the game is in a dire state. This, rather than the need for additional polish (as per the official explanation), is allegedly the real reason for Fable's delay.
According to insider Extas1s, the developers at Playground Games are struggling with the ForzaTech engine, which was originally designed for racing games and is completely unsuitable for an open-world RPG. Additionally, Extas1s claims that early versions of the gameplay were "not particularly engaging", forcing the developers to rework many mechanics and adjust the pacing of the game.
Another insider, HeisenbergFX4, also speaks of Fable's troubled development. Allegedly, the game is so far from completion that there's a chance it might not even be finished by 2026. Given that Microsoft plans to release Fable on PlayStation as well, the game's quality must meet the high standards of Sony's audience. HeisenbergFX4 believes that after the failure of Starfield and the at least controversial Avowed, Microsoft simply cannot afford another misstep.
