It's a hard week for all Bungie fans and employees. First of all, 220 people were laid off, and staff morale was not the only thing impacted. We've also heard news about some projects that won't be finished, to the possible disappointment of community.

Bungie has canceled the development of a Destiny 2 spin-off code-named Payback, according to Jason Schreier. The company made this decision some time ago. The project was in its early stages of development.

Schreier clarified the situation with Payback after journalist Jeff Grubb mentioned that Bungie had put the "next Destiny" on hold. According to the Schreier, Destiny 3 was never in development, so it couldn't have been canceled.

According to Grubb, the upcoming updates for Destiny 2 will be much smaller in scale. The company refers to these updates as content packs rather than expansions, indicating that players should not expect large-scale updates, the journalist noted.

Bungie still plans to release Marathon in 2025 and has high hopes for the game, Grubb reported. Yet, from today's point of view everything seems unclear. Sometimes changes are needed but their impact might be too strong.
