28 Years Later: On January 16, 2026, Columbia Pictures' The Bone Temple is released. Alex Garland, the original author of 28 Days Later, penned the script, which was directed by Nia DaCosta (The Marvels, Candyman). Producers include Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Bernard Bellew, and Danny Boyle, who directed 28 Days Later and is currently directing 28 Years Later. Cillian Murphy, the actor of Oppenheimer, is executive producing 28 Days Later.
Therefore, the second movie in the trilogy, The Bone Temple, is released only six months after 28 Years Later. The third movie has not yet been revealed. One of Cillian Murphy's breakthrough performances in 2002 was in 28 Days Later.
After an aggressive virus caused society to collapse, he played Jim, a bicycle courier who awoke from a coma to find himself in a post-apocalyptic London. Murphy did not make a comeback for the 2007 film 28 Weeks Later, which focused on a different group of characters. Although the zombie in the 28 Years Later trailer isn't Cillian Murphy, he is the film's executive producer and plays an unidentified character.
In October, Ralph Fiennes talked about his part in 28 Years Later, revealing that he plays a decent doctor (rather than an evil doctor, which exists in the 28 Days world). He also said that the resurrection will be a trilogy, with two films already shot.
