The Game Awards 2024 is over, and in addition to numerous big announcements, it's worth noting the winners of the event.

The main triumphant of the evening was Astro Bot. Bookmakers predicted this platformer would win with a probability of about 60%, and that prediction proved correct. Overall, Team Asobi's creation won four nominations including GOTY. Metaphor: ReFantazio and Balatro also performed well, each earning three nominations.

LoL was named Esports Game of the Year, which was expected, given the records set during Worlds 2024. No other game had a standout success (although MLBB continues to build on its success, their M6 World Championship won’t conclude until this Sunday, so the timing is bad enough to leave the nomination without worthy contenders). The Team of the Year was T1, and the Player of the Year was Faker—no questions here as well.

It’s also worth noting that Arcane did not win the Best Adaptation award—Fallout claimed the trophy instead.

For three hours TGA 2024 followed the typical Geoff Keighley event format: announcements, advertisements, and performances from key game designers. It was nice to see segments mocking previous event mishaps, with Keighley himself getting roasted by two puppets. As usual, the beginning and end of the show are memorable parts, while the middle section slowed down in pace, but it was not that critical.
