Riot Games is working on expanding the Valorant game universe using the latest version of the Unreal Engine, as revealed by the game's executive producer, Anna Donlon, at the Unreal Fest 2024 conference. You can watch her presentation starting at the 1-hour, 28-minute mark.

The developers of Valorant have stated that they've already pushed the current Unreal Engine 4.27 to its limits, and Riot Games is planning to release a new version of the game that will transition to Unreal Engine 5. Initially, this upgrade is not expected to affect the game's graphics or performance, but over time, VALORANT will evolve and transform. Additionally, Donlon hinted that Riot Games is exploring new ways to expand the Valorant experience for fans in unique formats.

No exact dates were mentioned, and it is unsurprising. Switch to UE5 is not an easy process, considering that many players will be affected, especially considering that the new generation of engine requires modern hardware, and esports is known for many games with low system requirement.

How many people play Valorant?

Anna Donlon also mentioned that over 35 million players a month play Valorant. This number includes both PC and console versions of the game. For comparison, Counter-Strike 2 has slightly over 26 million monthly unique players.
