We're used to Windows as the primary platform for PC gaming. However, it is not the only one. While Mac users will have the opportunity to play Cyberpunk 2077, Linux users suffered quite a blow. The developers of Apex Legends have disabled access to the game on devices running Linux. This restriction also affects handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, which runs on SteamOS by default. Respawn announced the changes on EA's website.

The developers decided to end Linux support after discovering that cheaters frequently use the OS for exploits in Apex Legends. Linux's open nature makes it appealing to those creating and using cheats, explained Respawn. The Apex Legends team acknowledges that the decision to ban access from Linux will lead to a small loss of players. However, they believe this will significantly reduce cheater activity.

Apex Legends was the only popular online shooter that officially supported Linux. Other similar games, like Fortnite, Valorant, and PUBG, do not run on the OS due to concerns about cheater influx.
