Marvel Rivals' creative director recently responded to community requests for a role queue system, which some players think could resolve one of the game's most noticeable multiplayer problems. Players can now select their hero in Marvel Rivals without worrying about role limitations.

The game launched on December 5 following a very successful beta. Just three days after, over 10 million players had played Marvel Rivals, and many of them were complimenting the game's choice of playable heroes from the extensive Marvel universe. The absence of a role queue system, which incentivizes players to choose a specific role that must be filled in order to balance the team out, prompted some fans to start criticizing the game in the weeks after launch. Overwatch 2, the primary rival of Marvel Rivals, has a role queue system to keep imbalanced teams from unfairly winning or losing games.

According to a Dot Esports interview with creative director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen, the Marvel Rivals development team is not currently thinking about implementing a role queue system. Instead of restricting players to a particular hero or role, Chen says the team wants to provide a range of team composition options with team-up skills and their own designs. Chen also discussed the team's collected player data, pointing out that Marvel Rivals Competitive play has given rise to a wide variety of team configurations. The data results are in line with NetEase's expectations, and the developers aim to preserve the player experience by letting them choose the hero of their choice.

Chen says the team will keep an eye on team compositions and how they might affect the game in the future, even though role queue doesn't seem to be coming to Marvel Rivals anytime soon. The findings from the data collection may have an impact on Marvel Rivals' hero balancing in the future.
