The developers at MercurySteam are alumni of Rebel Act Studios, the creators of the cult classic game Severance: Blade of Darkness. Released in 2001, this project stood out for its unique combat system, which allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, adding an element of brutality and realism to the gameplay. Severance became one of the key sources of inspiration for the new team.

However, the creation of the new game was also influenced by modern action-adventure titles. For instance, the developers drew inspiration from the cinematic combat and detailed world of the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio. The team aimed to combine fast-paced action with RPG elements to create an engaging and immersive gaming experience.

Particular attention should be paid to the unique weapon crafting system in Blades of Fire. Players will be able to forge their own blades, customizing characteristics such as length, weight, durability, and balance. This allows each player to tailor their weapons to their preferred combat style.

The game's story follows the warrior Aran de Lira, who finds himself in a confrontation with a cunning queen capable of turning metal into stone. Along his journey, the hero will face 50 different types of enemies, each requiring a unique approach.

Blades of Fire will be released on PC (EGS), Xbox Series, and PS5 on May 22, 2025.
