Lately, filmmakers have been getting us used to the idea that video game adaptations can actually be good (no, Borderlands, we're not talking about you). Arcane, Fallout, The Last of Us — these are great examples of how blockbusters with rich lore can be brilliantly adapted to the big screen.

For this reason, many were excited about the announcement of a God of War movie adaptation. The 2018 game, while not overly extensive in terms of lore, provides a solid foundation for such a project.

Unfortunately, the only news for fans so far is bad, as all key team members have left the project. This includes the showrunner and the writers. Even though Sony was reportedly satisfied with the quality of their work, something clearly went wrong. Rumors suggest that Sony and Prime want to take the series in a different creative direction, which means they'll have to start nearly from scratch.

The only silver lining here is that Sony and Prime haven't abandoned the project and still intend to work on it. But as of now, it's impossible to even speculate on a release date.
